Director, Marketing and Public Relations
The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held organization with roots firmly planted in agriculture and agriculture-related businesses. These endeavors have been around for centuries and will continue to be a vital part of the global economy. We currently have a position available within our Marketing and Communications Team, in support of our Plant Sciences business.
Overview:
Leads efforts for driving public opinion regarding Plant Sciences crops to achieve business objectives through marketing and public relations activities with regulators, farmers, scientists and the public to support the acceptance of biotech crops in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Japan and other countries.
Responsibilities:
· Identify the strategic options, then lead and coordinate the activities of a new Biotech Communications Council consisting of JR Simplot executives, issues management firms in Washington DC, and public relations and marketing communications firms to develop multi-year marketing and public relations plans.
· Coordinates the execution of Plant Sciences Crop marketing and PR plans through agencies, consultants and internal resources.
· Monitor public opinion through proprietary research to determine effectiveness of marketing and PR plans. Analyze results of this research and propose adjustments to plans.
· Develop and execute communication plans for Simplot internal key constituents and stakeholders across the Company and coordinate communication to align those constituents behind Plant Sciences and biotech objectives.
Education/Experience/Skills Requirements:
· Bachelor’s degree in marketing or public relations with an MBA preferred.
· 5 years of experience in public relations, crisis management, marketing or brand management preferred. Scientific background extremely beneficial.
· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence up, down and across, both within the Company and outside of the Company
· May require up to 40% travel

Summary of Position
The Idaho STAR Program Communications Manager is responsible for creation and deployment of an internal and external communication strategy to improve and maintain the community outreach efforts for Idaho STAR that includes (but is not limited to) print, radio/TV, news media, web presence, social media, blogs, and various staffed events. This position will provide leadership in developing the communication strategy annually. These efforts will result in safety messages reaching the target audience, increasing student registrations in STAR courses, and building STAR’s brand to the point of being THE place to go for Idaho riders with the ultimate goal of reducing motorcycle crashes and fatalities on Idaho’s roadways.

Job Description:
Ritter Public Relations is seeking qualified Account Executive candidates for a full time position in Boise, Idaho. The firm seeks individuals who can demonstrate initiative, are enthusiastic and committed to quality. Ideally, candidates will have five to seven years of experience in public relations, marketing or public affairs experience. Agency experience is a plus.
Requirements:
An Account Executive must have a bachelor’s degree, mastery over all basic communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to:
- Work independently to implement the full spectrum of public relations tactics including: pitching to news media, coordinating news conferences, arranging editorial board and analyst briefings, coordinating special events, preparing collateral materials, placing print and broadcast advertising, social media, etc.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff
- Interact with client contacts professionally
- Delegate tasks to junior and administrative staff effectively and appropriately
- Set priorities utilizing good judgment and multi-tasking skills
- Identify client challenges and opportunities, and react appropriately with guidance from supervisors
- Understand overall client strategies and help develop strategies as needed by working with supervisor

Dr. Moore to replace Ashley at Oct 26 event
Dr. Rick Moore, chair of the Department of Communications at Boise State University, will replace Seth Ashley for PRSA Idaho’s October 26 program on Social Media and the Law. See story below and to register.
Rick C. Moore earned his doctorate from the University of Oregon and has taught at Boise State since 1994. He is currently serving as the department chair.
Dr. Moore’s research interests are in the area of mass communication and ideology. Much of his writing has investigated media portrayal of religious and environmental issues. Another key area of study is the social thought of Jacques Ellul, a French theorist/theologian who asked challenging questions about the role of technology in our lives. Writing under his full name of Rick Clifton Moore, Dr. Moore has published articles in: The Journal of Communication; Mass Media & Society; The Journal of Media and Religion; The Bulletin of Science, Technology, and Society; Advertising and Society Review; The Ellul Forum; and The Journal for Peace and Justice Studies.

Moderator Todd Dvorak – Todd is a 15-year veteran in newspapers and with the Associated Press. He has served as administrative correspondent for the AP’s Boise office since 2007, directing state and national coverage of Idaho politics, business, sports and other Idaho stories that hit national and international news markets. Before moving to Idaho, Todd worked for the AP for five years in Iowa. Todd is a Wisconsin native and graduate from the University of Minnesota. He’s an avid fly fisherman, runner, outdoor enthusiast, reader and craft beer geek. He’s been married to Meg for 17 years.

Brian Cronin – A versatile and multifaceted communications professional, marketing strategist, writer, editor, spokesperson, speechwriter, political strategist, emcee, educator, and community volunteer. Diverse career trajectory includes work in public high schools, non-profits, a publishing house, a Fortune 50 company, and ad/marketing agencies. Brian was elected to the Idaho state legislature in 2008 and is the owner / president of Cronin and Associates.
Lynda Friesz-Martin – Lynda draws from 25 years of experience as a public relations/public involvement professional, with her services ranging from major corporate and public-sector clients, to special events and professional sports. Her strengths include project management, graphic design, web site design, facilitation and overseeing all of the day-to-day activities and business operations of her firm. Ms. Friesz-Martin has managed public involvement efforts for the City of Boise, Ada County Highway District, the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Federal Highway Administration, Alaska Department of Transportation and the Idaho Transportation Department. She is the president of Lynda Friesz Public Relations.
Randy Simon – Prior to joining Gallatin Public Affairs, Randy spent the past decade as an award winning journalist working in New Mexico and Idaho. Though the majority of his time was spent in front of the camera, Randy also reported for the local newspaper and hosted a radio talk show. While in New Mexico, he educated political candidates on the nuances of public speaking, interviewing and campaign media strategies. Randy attended Baylor University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in environmental studies. From there he traveled to Washington D.C. and worked with the conservation group American Forests before studying journalism in graduate school at the University of Colorado.
